This device consists of a PIN photo-diode and a transimpedance amplifierassembled in a T0-46 package. It isdesigned for short-distance ATM upt0 155 Mbps. The preamplifier's lin-earity and absence of automatic gaincontrol makes it ideal also for analogapplications and applications withbursty signals. Its double-lens opticalsystem is designed for single-modefiber as well as for multimode fiber with core diameter up t0 62.5Hm.

Rising output voltage crossing-0.6V initiates a 2ms timer, after which the MAX889increases switch strength to the next level. The risingoutput voltage crossing -1.5V initiates a 2ms timer, afterwhich the MAX889 provides full-strength operation.
